Found this spot by accident and decided to try the soy sauce chicken and steamed chicken to go. What a night-and-day difference compared to Costco's rotisserie chicken. Price aside, the chicken here is leaner, not as giant, and has a rich, flavorful taste with a firm texture, reminiscent of heirloom chicken you'd find in Asia. It's gonna be tough to go back to Costco's chicken after this.

New Hwong Kok is located inside Lion Center in Newark. I came to order BBQ Pork for take-out. I came early this time and no line. There are days when a line reaches out the door. The uncle asked if I wanted leaned or fatty meat and sliced the pork for me. I paid in cash as there is an extra charge for credit card payments. The service is quick and friendly. There is one line for meat and another for dim sum. Quick tip: if you just want dim sum, skip the lengthy line waiting for roasted duck, yellow chicken, BBQ pork, etc. and go inside the store. It must be good if there are constant lines to order take out.

I agree with a review before me that said "haters gonna hate," but this spot is undefeatable. You think the aunties yelling "next" and the uncle chopping the duck care about what we say on Yelp? Lol. With that said, this spot is a no frills Chinese bbq and dim sum spot. You go in, get what you want, and leave. They've been in this plaza for as long as I can remember. They take card payments but charge extra 3%.

The food tastes like I'm in Beijing & SG. Auntie the cashier is very friendly, she gave me extra shirm chive dumplings. The Uncle who is cutting the meat suggests getting freshly cooked pork and I'm glad I did. The place is set up for a quick in and out to go, they have also a few tables if you want to dine in.

Haters gonna hate but there's a reason why this establishment has been around forever and there are still lines out the door every day. This is my go to for a classic bowl of HK style wonton soup noodles with roast duck. Pro tip- they tend to put the choice roast duck pieces in the soup (vs selling by the pound) for some reason. They also have excellent crispy roast pork and other roast meats, as well as a very good congee. The everything bun is packed with delicious meat and a big chunk of egg. Dim sum items like the shu mai, turnip cakes, lotus in sticky rice are a good value but nothing to write home about.
